Chateau Montrose Red Dry Wine 2016 750ml / Chateau Montrose

The result of rigorous selection at each stage of production, in both the vineyard and the winery, this great, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon wine is typical of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Structured and tannic but with all the elegance and refinement of a Grand Cru Classé, with time it develops a delicate and complex bouquet.

The wines have considerable ageing potential and are exceptionally long-lived. Certain vintages (1921, 1929, 1982, 1990, 2009) are considered legendary.

Matured for 18 months in 60% new French oak barrels, the premium wine accounts from 35 to 40% of the total production of Château Montrose.

Tasting Notes

The very dark color is intense and deep.

The complex, lively and precise nose presents aromas of ripe fruit accompanied by woody, toasted notes and a spicy touch.

The attack is generous and opulent. The full and fleshy mouth reveals silky and precise tannins.

The full finish is incredibly long.

An exceptional, powerful, racy and elegant Montrose, well representative of the signature of our terroir.

General characteristics of the vintage

The 2016 vintage is characterized by a cool and wet start to the season, followed by a very dry and rather hot summer period.

Winter is relatively mild. Regular and intense rainfall punctuates the spring and allows the water tables to replenish their water reserves.

The few episodes of frost at the end of April did not cause any damage to the vineyard. Once again, the estuary plays an essential role as a thermal regulator.

Full flowering occurs around June 7th. At the end of the month, summer sets in for a long time, marked by very hot weather from August 15. The vineyard suffers but endures these extreme conditions thanks to the incomparable qualities of the terroir and its water reserves accumulated at the start of the year. The ripening of the grapes begins in mid-August, heralding the harvest in October.

September is hot and sunny. The rainy episode of September 13 revived the ripening cycle of the vines, slowed down by the very hot summer temperatures. The 4 grape varieties reach their optimum maturity. The alternation of hot days and cool nights makes it possible to preserve a formidable balance between freshness and aromatic power.

The harvest takes place serenely under a radiant sun from September 23 to October 14. This year, even more precise plot selection is carried out by a reinforced team of pickers (90 pickers).

In the cellar, the lots keep their identity and tailor-made vinifications make it possible to extract the best potential from each vat. This ultra-precise work results in a large pallet of 50 batches on assembly.

Period of harvest : September 23 - October 14
