The Grand Vin of Château Phélan Ségur comes from this magnificent terroir of Saint-Estèphe where power dominates. Strengthened by its origins, Château Phélan Ségur has created its identity based on elegance and finesse. With a certain restraint and great precision, it reveals the purity of the fruit, the accuracy of its structure, the silkiness of its tannins, all with a natural freshness. After long ageing, it reveals a bouquet of a rare complexity, the oak harmoniously integrated. This subtle and authentic balance creates an intense emotion. Château Phélan Ségur is known for its potential to age over several decades. An old vintage opens new aromatic horizons with an unexpected richness: the warmth of spices, the generosity of ripe fruits and the nobility of leather. Its texture is refined, its power is calmed. CHÂTEAU PHÉLAN SÉGUR 2018

The year 2018 is marked by the arrival of Philippe VAN de VYVERE at the head of Château Phélan Ségur, and therefore of his first vintage as owner.

“Rich and Power”

Tasting notes

Intense ruby red colour with purple reflections. Pure nose with an incredible intensity, dominated by notes of red fruit at perfect ripeness. Rich and harmonious attack, exceptional tannic structure, persistent and fleshy finish. Freshness, balance and great power characterise the vintage.

Harvest : from 24 September to 11 October 2018

Blending : 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot.

Climatic conditions :

From April to June: Mild temperatures in April and hot in June. May was marked by quite long rainy spells.

May and June: June was rather hot with rainfall 105 mm above the average for the past 23 years at Phélan Ségur. There was very strong pressure from mildew, which we were able to control without excessive spraying.

July to September : Dry and hot. The clay-gravel of Saint-Estèphe had built up water reserves in the subsoil during spring. This water was released during the summer drought.

September to October: the storm on 6 September (80% of the month’s rainfall) allowed us to avoid too much water stress and created ideal ripening conditions.
