Our Company
Perched on the mountains of Gortynia, in the triangle of Vitina-Stemnitsa-Karytaina and at the most beautiful area of Psari village, overlooking the open skyline, Mount Lykaio Oros and picturesque Karytaina, we created several years ago the multi-purpose facility Arcadiani. The inspirer of the area was the businessman Makis Papoulias, who works also as a volunteer along with a group of people from the village. The choice of the area was not just emotional; Arcadia was chosen because we wanted to convey the message of the Arcadian way of life, which valorizes the simple, essential joys of life, always respecting the principle of moderation. We chose our village not just because it is loaded with the memories of our ancestors and our childhood, but because we wanted our business initiative to have the distinctive style of a small organized society that supports these ideas.”
Everything started with the successful “Grandmas’ Delicacies” events, organized by the Athenian association once a year. There, the whole village was cooking and selling homemade products to 2,000 visitors. Seeing how much people adored these products, we thought we had to do something to keep young people in their home place, establishing new businesses. We bought a plot of 10 acres and started to construct stone and wood buildings, respecting the natural environment and the style of the village.
This is how Arcadiani, a company of six young people, fellow countrymen, was created, giving life to an abandoned until then village. Arcadiani is love for the birthplace; it’s a suggestion for good nutrition and four season cooking; support of small producers and a positive way to overcome the desertion of the region.
It is an innovative development proposal for Arcadia; we had a hard start but we are being optimistic as we see a whole area being revitalized, new jobs to be created and the area to be considered as a model for other parts of our country. “Arcadia is a common name that has prevailed worldwide as the reminiscence of a simple and feasible bliss that is interwoven with the notions of harmony, innocence, joy of life, moderation, and return to the essence. And we, a group of people who perceive this heritage in the same way and come from the same village, created Arcadiani with the desire to convey these messages.”
