Erigone, Black Muscat of Tyrnavos

Erigone (meaning the daughter of spring) was the mythical daughter of Icarius of Athens, who had opened his home to the god Dionysus. Wishing to reward him for his hospitality, the god Dionysus had left his mark on Tyrnavos, which is visible even to this day in the form of the Bourani festival.

The wine grape variety that has been associated more than any other with the Tyrnavos region is the Muscat of tyrnavos, a variety that comes in many wine forms, the most dominant being aged sweet wine.

Eriigone wine is in itself a combination of history and myth. The Muscat grapes from which it is produced come from old grapevines that never made it to our time; they were cultivated and made into wine by the previous generation.

This wine is devoutly stored and aged for decades in large oak barrels in the cooperative’s cellar, being as it is the most treasured piece of this wine history.
