There are several stories which relate to the origin story of Manhattan. However, its first written mention was made on an article of the "Sunday Morning Herald" in New York in 1882, speaking of how "a mixture of whiskey, vermouth and bitters become fashionable". In 1884, the complete Manhattan recipe was published in OH Byron's "The Modern Bartender's Guide". As for the genesis of its creation, the famous cocktail was made for the first time in 1874 at the Manhattan Club in New York. This creation was made for Lady Randolph Churchill who celebrated the success of Samuel Jones Tilden in his campaign to become Governor.
