Amali Kerasmata

Our Company

Amali Kerasmata is the realization of the ideas and the philosophy of the company's founder and owner, Amalia Birtsa. The basic principle underlying this philosophy is our commitment to freely offering the best of what we make, with great care and love.
The company is located in Halkida, in one of the most central shopping streets of the city. In our food preparation establishment, there is also a small grocery/food store where visitors can taste and purchase daily fresh sweets, jams, biscuits and cereal bars, handmade by Amalia, along with other excellent products from the prefectures of Evia and Fthiotida (where Amalia comes from). We also run an online shop with detailed descriptions and high quality photos of the products on offer.
Amali Kerasmata started with the production of fruit vinegars, which involves adding fruit to the vinegar and properly processing it. Amalia follows the traditional recipes, adding her own personal touch so that the best result can be achieved. The flavours presently available are: strawberry, cornus, fig, pomegranate, blackberry (red fruit), quince, peppermint (white fruit),  and the list is constantly growing. The fruits used in these vinegars are mainly wild, carefully selected and picked by Amalia and her family.
There is also a wide range of snacks on offer, the recipes for which have been devised by Amalia herself with a nod to Greek tradition, such as fava beans, or inspired by world cuisine, such as caramelised onions.  Every single snack pot is prepared with great care and attention in the traditional way. All our products are handmade in every production stage, cooked in pots and not in industrial boilers, thus ensuring the preservation of the original flavours and the continuation of the rich Greek tradition.
The snack series called "micro meals" comprises 5 products: Caramelised Onions, red pepper chutney with chili (mild), sweet and sour Pumpkin Sauce with mustard, curry and ginger, Fava Shoinousas and Fava Shoinousas with caramelised onions.
We also create products in collaboration with other local producers, such as a major fava producer on a small Cyclades island, Shoinousa.
All our products feature bilingual labels (Greek and English) and nutritional analysis charts, created in cooperation with certified food analysis laboratories. Our company will soon be certified according to ISO-HACCP Food Safety Management System.
In 2016, Amali Kerasmata participated for the first time in the Olymp Awards food and drinks/beverages competition with the “Mikrogevmata” product series and the results were as follows:
- Caramelised Onions: Golden Medal, distinction as one of the 20 best products in the competition.
- Sweet and Sour Pumpkin Sauce: Bronze Medal.
- Fava Shinousas with caramelised onions: Bronze Medal.
3 new products are expected to come out in 2017, completing the “Mikrogevmata” series. For the time being, they are being tested in the local market of Halkida and in food exhibitions around Greece.
We choose our suppliers carefully, meeting them in person in their location and inspecting their fields, most of which are located in Evia. In this way, the costs involved (eg transport) are kept low, which is reflected in the retail prices. If some products cannot be found in Evia, we systematically search for them firstly in other nearby areas in the prefecture of Sterea Ellada and then in the rest of the country. In this way, we secure excellent quality in the lowest prices possible, contributing at the same time to the protection and the preservation of the environment.
Our products are nationally available in at least 70 spots and this retail network is constantly growing. Approximately 20 restaurants mostly in Athens and Halkida use our products and we export to 3 countries (Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands).
Our plans for the future include the creation of a larger production unit, which will help us achieve the goals of making our land globally better-known and offering employment to as many people as possible.
We strongly believe that working together with respect for nature, the people’s needs and the Greek tradition, will help in the creation of a better future for all.
