Purple Rhapsody by Kotoulas Wines is a brilliant blend of Xinomavro (65%) and Syrah (35%) cultivated in the Viticultural Zone of Naoussa, Northern Greece. The 2019 release is limited to just 2,000 bottles.

Like a music composer, the winemaker inspired by the dynamics of both grapes, creates a piece of art featuring purple colour and highly contrasted aromas and flavours. Small red fruit, cherries, tomatoes and olives elegantly mingle with vanilla and sweet spices to compose our own Purple Rhapsody. A story, a journey and a wonderful musical ride to the vineyards of Northern Greece.

TASTING NOTES: Purple Rhapsody is a red wine with deep ruby purple colour. It unfolds a fascinating aromatic bouquet of wild berries and cracked pepper with some old leather and vanilla notes from oak maturation. The wine feels sleek, mouth-filling with smooth tannins, folding out long at the finish.

FOOD PAIRING: Purple Rhapsody is an excellent food wine. Pair it with wild boar stew, veal fillet, roast lamb, grilled ribs, hearty steaks, or pot roast. Try it with a creamy risotto with porcini mushrooms and truffle. Or with a rich, rustic hare stew! Also fantastic with smoked cheese, aged cheddar or hard cheeses.

SERVING TIPS: Serve at room temperature 18 °C in bulb glass with a wide rim. It is strongly advised to decant the wine before serving, so that the flavours can fully develop. Use a wine decanter or carafe to decant the wine and aid the aeration process.

WINEMAKING: Grapes are carefully selected and hand-picked from carefully selected vineyards. They are rigorously sorted at the winery, to ensure that only ripe and healthy fruit goes into the destemmer. During red vinification, pre-ferment cold maceration occurs followed by alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures. Then the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is being matured in new French oak barrels. It is bottled unfiltered.

AGING: The wine is aged for 18 months in new 250-lt oak barrels and for a further 6 months in bottle.
